The Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre (CEOP) has a strong reputation for producing high quality materials for young people about the dangers of the internet. At the end of last year they approached Torpedo Factory Films to pitch for a very different project. The brief was 2 fold - to produce a Teaser to encourage parents and carers to get involved with their childrens’ online activities; and secondly to produce content for an online parents evening to go ‘live’ on Tuesday 7th February 2012. These resources were to be a positive take on technology and change and a vehicle for conversation between parents and children about some of the difficult issues which the internet raises.

Where better to start than the 1950s? A period of optimism and change and where technological advancement was embraced as a family unit: the first Microwave, the Dishwasher…Credit Card…oh and the birth of Mr Potato Head of course. Then take the internet and transport it into that environment – what would it look like? How would it be received? This is how our teaser was born…watch it here and then tune in to CEOP’s youtube channel on Tuesday 7th February for The Parents’ & Carers’ Guide to the Internet
