Gordon AV were asked to provide the lighting and lighting rig for  the launch of London's new Routemaster bus - a full-scale model was unveiled by London Mayor Boris Johnson in November 2010.

The team provided a suspended lighting rig for the purpose of bright even illumination of the bus ready for press and photographers, and also provided a sound system so the media could clearly hear and record the opening speeches of Boris Johnson and the official team involved with the bus.

The technicians also fitted out the interior with ‘working light’ for the purpose of investor show rounds. The bus was a model so had no engine or proper electrics, the interior being painted wood. There were a selection of seats all laid out to scale though the top deck was practically empty. The lower deck posed a little tricky to light due to restricted space and the challenge of making the light units bright yet almost invisible, a selection of small chrome lanterns strategically positioned were used to give the best light coverage.  The event was project managed by Seth Beighton for Gordon AV Event Services.

It went on show at Acton Transport Depot in west London, and the team were challenged with the task of lighting the huge venue to show the model off to full advantage. The buses go into service in 2012.
